The Impact of Battery Casing Material on Alkaline Battery Performance

The material of the battery casing directly affects the mechanical strength, sealing, and thermal management performance of alkaline batteries. Metal casings (such as nickel-plated steel casings) provide excellent mechanical protection and electromagnetic shielding, but may increase weight and cost. Plastic casings are lightweight and have good insulation, but lower mechanical strength and are prone to deformation at high temperatures. Sealing performance is crucial; the casing must completely isolate the internal electrolyte from the external environment to prevent leakage or gas leaks that could lead to performance degradation. In terms of thermal conductivity, metal casings help dissipate heat and prevent the battery from overheating; plastic casings may accumulate heat, affecting long-term stability.

The corrosion resistance of the casing is essential, requiring resistance to the chemical attack of the electrolyte. In terms of design, the shape and thickness of the casing must balance space utilization and structural strength; too thin a casing may lead to breakage risks, while too thick a casing wastes material and increases volume. Therefore, the selection of casing material must comprehensively consider performance, cost, and applicable scenarios.
